Are you curious what this term means? Well, during political campaigns, one way of getting a message out to voters is by text-banking, where people text voters about a particular issue or candidate. Friend banking is where we text people we know including friends and family, even friends you might not even be close to. People are much more likely to pay attention to a text from someone in their contact list than some random person(or robot).

The GCC action last week was focused on getting the word out about Issue 1 here in Ohio. There are a lot of people who are unaware, or might be confused because of the lies that are being spread by people who do not want us to change the way we create our district maps. We did a half hour of friend banking at the GCC action and our team was able to secure 81 yeses for Issue 1 in that time. Our team was comprised of our church group of 10 and maybe 4 or 5 others. We made a commitment to have our own friends banking party and we are going to do it at church on Sunday, October 27th during coffee hour from 12 until 12:30. We will keep track of our numbers and see how many people we can get who will commit to voting yes on Issue 1! It will be a fun way to do something positive for democracy in our state!
